If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for this perennially sold out concert, you’re in for a real treat. Step into the Past is a unique experience that transports you back in time with an authentic, traditional 18th century meal, served in period costume and character. After dinner, a lantern lit walk through the streets of the French Fortress of Louisbourg leads to an acoustic concert in the Chapel at the King’s Bastion. When you hear the lilting melodies from these three dynamic trios, set against the beautiful candlelit backdrop of the historic chapel, it won’t matter much what century it is. Les Zorvenants, a group from the Cheticamp area with roots in 18th century French music, set the scene with a collection of songs from the Acadian tradition. Newfoundland’s Matthew Byrne transcends time and place with traditional songs from both sides of the Atlantic, while the Rachel Newton Trio wrap harp, fiddle, and percussion around their collection of songs in Gaelic and English.
